CENTURY: 16th Century

Buddhist thought and Buddhist art continued to flourish, particularly in Western Tibet throughout the 16th and into the mid-17th century. Wall paintings and tangkas survive in quite large numbers from Ladakh and surrounding regions, such as those from the monasteries of Rasgo, Piyang, Likir, and Lamayuru, as well as from Karsha and Phugtal monasteries in Zanskar.
