Portable Shrine

Polychrome wood portable shrine. The two doors, made from hollowed-out log, open to reveal shelves for statues. There are six paintings of Gelukpa founders and protectors inside of the doors. Left from top down: A yellow hat lama, Mahakal, Palden Lhamo; Right side: Yellow hat lama, Yamaraja, Beg-tse Chen. An inscription on the metal trim of the right door invokes the name of a protector particularly important to the Gelug-school Dorje Jigje (Vajrabhairava). The shrine is fitted with metal mounts and strap-holders to facilitate it being attached to the back of a human or pack animal.
